Our research explores the possibility of efficiently implementing the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) in the Graphic Processing Unit using the CUDA platform provided by Nvidia. GPUs present a considerable computational power that often is not used; their architecture seems particularly useful in the range of applications that use parallel processing. Because of its nature AES seems to be a good fit for parallel processing. Other research have been done in this field, a work from Harrison [1] which analyzes the performance of different approaches in implementing AES on GPUs shows promising results. We want to use this work as a starting point for our novel research that will be tight on CUDA.
